Sing Your Prayers

You see that guy to the left with the bass guitar and big smile on his face?  That is my baby brother Oscar Beck. He is playing (and making a little money) with the band “Gary Story and Bad Habit.”  I said a prayer for my brother, then I decided to write it down and put it to music.  That was three years ago. The song is called “Shine” and is simply asking the Lord to shine his face on my brother and give him peace, similar to the way He gave me peace by His mercy.

If you think about it, all those Psalms in the Bible are prayers.  Prayers put to music and sang by an individual, a group or the whole congregation.  I think it really helps to express the deep parts of our heart when we take the time to sing our prayers, and the Lord seems to like that.  As I have worked on and struggled through this song The Lord has kept me hopeful and expectant about my brother.  That is, I expected to see his countenance change.  And now look at that smile!

My song/ prayer for Oscar is not finished as far as the production goes, but the prayer has been sung a thousand times now.  So next time you have a prayer for a loved one or a specific person and need, sing it to The Lord.  Lift your hands up and praise God for his mercy and kindness. That mercy IS The Lord Jesus Christ!

“Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise. Sing unto the LORD with the harp; with the harp, and the voice of a psalm. With trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise before the LORD, the King.” (Psalm 98:4-6)

Yep. That is me and Oscar back in 1988.
