Refocus: clearing the fog

Yesterday, self doubt was like a fog just off the shore of the gulf. This morning the fog of self doubt had rolled inland, as thick as chowder.

In that kind of mist there are fears of failure, shadowed voices of accusations, the frustration of trying to ignore them or fight them off.

Prayers needed to take place… quickly! So I gave it all to the Lord and asked Him to nourish my heart and mind with The Bread of Life. He answered as always!

Being a musician, unfortunately, is a prideful business. We desire validation (as the psychologists put it) but even preachers go through these kinds of moments.

As I opened the scripture this morning my eyes fell on one verse spoken by The Lord Jesus in the book of John.

John 5:30 “I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.”

Instant wisdom for us musicians! Especially Christian artists.

“I can of mine own self do nothing”

Just in that line alone there is immediate refocus from self and men’s opinions, turning our eyes to the Lord Jesus. He is our counselor and he gave us an example of a right attitude.

So the light of The Lord shines and many of those accusing voices and fears fall away. As if the morning sun brightened and lifted the fog.

I am sure there is a song idea or two in this, so you song writers get to work, honor The Lord and bless people!
